Kumbh Mela – A Mega Event, and long-term project

 Kumbh Mela

A mega event, an intense, long-term project, and a complex, multi media presentation

The “KUMBH MELA” is the largest pilgrimage in the world, culminating in a big festival which takes place in India, alternating at these four different locations: Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik/Trimbak, and Ujjain. The festival is held every 12 years at the very same location, at the time of a specific, unique alignment of stars.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit all of the four Kumbh Melas within the past six years, and to take photos. For me, this became a personal and long-term project:

This project led to a comprehensive multi media live presentation, which premiered on February 19, 2017 in the Auditorium of Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum, Cologne, in front of a near sell-out crowd. I am very happy and proud, and immensely grateful for the positive reception and enthusiastic reactions.

A special Thank You …

A project like this is not possible without a lot of help and support. I would like to take this opportunity to expressively thank my many supporters:

The Guides in India:

My fellow travellers / photography aficionados, who joined me as colleagues at various  Kumbh Melas, who were inspiring and dedicated, some of them even offering their own photographic footage as an addition (in chronological order):

Other major Supporters

A big and special Thank You to all the Sadhus and people in India, who we met but don´t know by name, who showed their generosity and support in many small and big acts of kindness!

Last but not least I would like to thank all of my friends and family who believed in me, sent their good vibes and showed their patience with my “very very long-term project” 😉
