On January 23rd 2018 our next photography expedition starts in Myanmar / Burma.
I organize this trip again as a joint venture with the fantastic burmese photographer Win Kyaw Zan and we will travel 12 days in Myanmar / Burma. (Departure from Yangon on February 4th)
As usual when I organize a photography expedition we will make sure to travel in a small group (approx. 10) and that we have an itinerary that perfectly suits the desires and needs of a photographer. So every participant can get what he/she wants. Due to limited availability make sure to get in contact with me as early as you can!

23. January: Yangon

All participants will arrive at Yangon airport where they will be picked-up at the airport and we gather as a group. Welcome by Win and transfer to the Hotel. Orientation by Win about the trip, cultural aspects and customs. Check in at the Hotel and go out for lunch at Padonamar Myanmar Traditional food. Proceed to Karin Pariyati monastery to photograph monks studying in indoor light. Private photo shoot: We will have some monks modeling for us by windows and doorways, stairs, meditation etc. The master of the monastery will help us to get the photos we want. Visit Chaukhtetgyi reclining Buddha at the same compound.  Back to the Hotel and overnight in Yangon

24. January:  Yangon

Early morning 05:00 am before sunrise: drive to fish market and photograph the people carrying, selling and unloading fish from the boat, steaming ice machines and local market. Back to the Hotel for breakfast and go to a local monastery with over 1.000 monks. Photograph the monks preparing for lunch. Indoor photography: Prayer before lunch and photograph them having lunch. Visit the nunnery next door and photograph them studying. Light lunch at Thai restaurant. Afternoon photography: Old Rangoon, old buildings, street photography, China Town and proceed to Sin Oo Dan Jetty to photograph the small boats leaving Yangon by sunset. Sunset from the jetty with seagulls and boats by Yangon River. Back to the hotel and overnight in Yangon.

25. January: Yangon – Bagan

After breakfast check out and drive to the airport for the morning flight to Bagan. Prepare for the shoot at the airport and proceed directly to Shwezigon Tazaung and photograph light and shadows with villagers walking with things on their heads. Lunch at best Bagan restaurant BBB. Check in at the Hotel. In the afternoon: photographing the Dhammangyi temple,  (biggest temple of Bagan) with a reclining Buddha from the 13th century. We’ll have candles to light up and photograph the Buddha with praying girls. Further more: the Sulamani temple with the best murals from 12 -13th century. At 04:30 pm drive to Pyathetgyi Temple to photograph the goats and cows going home with dust beautifully lit by the sunset. Then back to the hotel overnight in Bagan.

26. January: Bagan

Early morning 5:00 am photograph the misty temples at sunrise from Shwesandaw Pagoda. We’ll also photograph the Balloons Over Bagan over thousands of temples and pagodas. Back to to the Hotel for breakfast. Morning photography: Ananda temple with the most beautiful standing Buddha images from 11th century, beautiful indoor light. Proceed to Taung Pi Nat Taung monastery and photograph the old teak monastery. Lunch at Tharaba gate restaurant. Evening special visit to Minanthu village and photograph the weaving ladies smoking cheroot, dusty ox-carts on their way home before sunset and villagers carrying water. Sunset by the village and photograph ox-carts with the temples as background. Back to the Hotel and overnight at Bagan.

On this day you can also do a Hot Air Balloon flight over Bagan! I did this myself on my Myanmar-trip in 2009/2010. For me it was a breathtaking and touching experience to fly over this area with seemingly uncountable Pagodas during sunset …  If you can afford it I can highly recommend it! But there is a very high demand. So you will need to book your Balloon flight 6 month in advance!

27. January: Bagan – Kampalet

Today we will travel from Bagan to Kampalet where we will spend two nights with people from the Chin tribe. We are going there because they used to have a tradition to entirely tattoo the faces of their woman! We will meet the people get to know their customs and arrange portrait shootings.

28. January: Kampalet

We will spent this day entirely in Kampalet.

29. January: Kampalet – Bagan

Today we will travel back to Bagan and hopefully will be there to shoot the sunset again 😉

30. January: Bagan – Mandalay

Early morning flight to Mandalay. On the road to Mandalay, we’ll stop at Palaik with over 800 temples, weaving village, local school and photograph the village life. Then proceed to Mandalay. Lunch at Ko’s Kitchen, a popular Thai Restaurant.  At 02:00 pm check in at Hotel. At 03:30 pm: Afternoon special visit to Amaparura to photograph the Taungthaman lake, villagers with Thanaka paste on their faces, photograph the fishermen around the lake and sunset over U Bein Bridge, the longest teakwood bridge in the world by sunset. Then back to hotel overnight in Mandalay.


31. January: Mandalay – Innwa – Sagaing – Amarapura

After early breakfast at 5:15 am, drive to to Amaparura to photograph the Taungtha-man lake, villagers with Thanaka on their faces, the fishermen around the lake and sunrise over U Bein Wooden Bridge. Then, we’ll leave for Ava. Photography in Ava, the ancient capital, palace site, watch tower and 500 years old teak monastery, a monastic school. Continue to Sagaing. Lunch at Sagaing Hill restaurant. Photography in Sagaing: Pottery village, people carrying pots, 30 cave pagoda with 45 Buddha images, photograph the panoramic view from Sagaing Hill. Then back to Mandalay, Visit bronze casting village, traditional arts and crafts shop and workshops to photograph people at work on the way back. Proceed to Sandamuni Pagoda to photograph the 1.000 pagodas in golden evening light and sunset from there. Back to the hotel overnight in Madalay.

01. Feruary: Mandalay – Inle Lake

Early morning breakfast and transfer to the airport for the flight to Heho. On arrival in Heho we will stop at traditional Shan Umbrella making and paper making workshops. Then we will proceed to Nyaung Shwe and photograph young novices (monks) in a round window at a wooden monastery. We will also have a chance to photograph them studying in beautiful light. Then we will proceed to Inle lake. Lunch at Nyaungshwe. Afterwards drive to Jetty and transfer into long tail boat. All the transportation in Inle lake is by boat. Check in at the Hotel. We will go out to photograph the ,one-leg-rowing fishermen‘ at sunset.
Then back to hotel overnight at Inle Lake.


02. February: Inle Lake – Inndein

At 05:30 am early morning sunrise photo shoot by a local floating village. Then back to hotel for breakfast. After breakfast we’ll take a boat ride to a local market. Then proceed to a special archeological site: Inndein. We’ll photograph the 1.000 ruins at Inndein. Lunch at local restaurant. We’ll also visit Phaungdaw Oo pagoda from 11th Century. Back to Inle lake. Sunset shoot on the way back to the Hotel.
Overnight at Inle Lake.

03. February: Inle Lake – Yangon

After breakfast early morning boat ride to Nyaungshwe. Drive to Heho for the flight back to Yangon. After arrival in Yangon check in at Hotel. Lunch at Green Elephant Myanmar Restaurant. After lunch Yangon downtown photography, China Town and special excursion to the 2.500 years old great Shwdagon Pagoda with over 90 tons of gold. We’ll photograph people praying, offering water to Buddha’s, offering candles and inscene. We will stay there until dark so that we can photograph the candles around Shwedagon Pagoda. Then back to Hotel overnight in Yangon

04. February: Abreise aus Yangon
After breakfast, prepare for departure. Transfer to Yangon International Airport. Say Good Bye to everybody and to Myanmar.

Should you prefer a single room, we are happy to offer this at availability with additional costs of USD 1.000.
There will be the opportunity to book a hot air Balloon flight in Bagan. Regular price is approx. USD 320 per person.
If we manage to get a small group together we might get a discount.

At the time of booking a deposit of USD 500 is due. This ensures you can participate. This deposit is non refundable.
